• New students are given a free month of classes so they can get a real feeling for the program.
• Fees are low, including 2-for-1 family rates, thanks in part to a generous rental agreement with the Belgravia Community League.
• All ages train together in the same classes.
• All students progress at their own rate, and there are no fitness prerequisites.
• The school’s curriculum extends into the highest black belt ranks, and is overseen by master instructors in Toronto, Boston, and Okinawa.
• The class schedule includes two Ashtanga Yoga classes each week at no extra cost to members. The Yoga classes are also available to drop-ins.
• The Northern River Karate School has been in existence for over 20 years, the last 10 years in Belgravia.
• The school is run by the Edmonton Northern River Karate School Association, a not-for-profit Association.
• The Association’s mandate is to provide high-quality and accessible martial arts instruction, and to serve the community.
• All students are members of the Association, and are eligible (at 18 and older) to vote in Association meetings and to participate on the Board.
• The Association’s community service activities include assisting the Belgravia Community League in fundraising, and volunteering in the City of Edmonton’s Adopt a Block litter clean-up program.
